The City Roots market is open on Thursdays from 4 to 7 p.m. year-round and features a selection of local products week-to-week: fresh, organic produce grown at City Roots’ farm, local seafood, pasture-raised beef, pork, lamb and poultry, free range eggs, artisan breads and baked goods, organic maize products, fresh milk and butter, cheese, honey and a selection of craft beer and wine. Different local food vendors will have food available for purchase, and farm vendors will have tastings and specials, all accompanied with live, acoustic music.
Soda City Farmers Market (http://sodacitysc.com/) is open every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Main Street and it’s only a short walk from your home at Providence Park apartments! Park for free in the Cannon Garage on Taylor Street then stroll through Downtown Columbia to find fresh produce, beer & wine, local art, clothing, and handmade crafts vendors, food trucks, and street performers. Grab some friends, including your furry ones, and join your neighbors to have fun in this special part of Columbia!

1. Lights Before Christmas at Riverbank Zoo and Botanical Gardens

This musical adaptation is full of laughs and heartwarming holiday tradition. The Herdmans are the worst kids in the history of the world–so when they crash Sunday school and demand parts in the Christmas pageant, the whole town panics. Silent night? Not a chance. 5. Shandon Baptist Church’s Singing Christmas Tree
This FREE event is a Columbia holiday tradition! The popular community holiday celebration returns for five performances this Christmas season. The Singing Christmas Tree features a 30-foot tree, holding a 100+-person choir. The choir is accompanied by a thirty-piece orchestra, and the show includes a dramatic presentation of the Christmas story accentuated by dance ensembles.

Millions of visitors will flood to South Carolina to watch the solar eclipse from all around the nation. The path of totality will pass through Columbia, Greenville and Charleston where there will be one to two minutes of blackout! When the eclipse comes, where will you be?
Here are a few other local spots hosting eclipse events:
- Bricktown Bistro & Raw Bar – At 1 p.m., the restaurant will be hosting a free event only 9 miles away from our apartments! There will also be free glasses provided for your safety.
- Total Eclipse Workshops at Sesquicentennial State Park: on August 19th, 10 to 11 a.m., the state park will be hosting an event prior to the eclipse to discuss this phenomenon and how to safely view the eclipse. There will be take home crafts and activities free with park admission. Preregister online and reserve your spot!

In our Providence Park Places to Be series, we try to help by suggesting some of our favorite spots. In this week’s edition, we’re talking about the delicious Blue Fin Restaurant!
Blue Fin is in Sandhills, just a 10-minute drive from your Providence Park Apartment. You’ll find great steaks and seafood dishes here, in addition to a killer happy hour during the week and an awesome brunch on Sundays.
The restaurant also has live music throughout the week and a wonderful wait staff. We love it for family outings, date nights, or girls’ night out!
